Cecil Calliste, Ministry Leader

Hello, my name is Cecil.  I work with a very special ministry here at the Takoma Park Church called, “Lord’s Lunch.”  This ministry is all about providing food, free of charge, to people in need.  What we do is simple.  We collect good, wholesome, fresh food, directly from local grocery chains, and deliver these groceries to our neighbors who have fallen on hard times.  We also deliver food to service organizations such as Shephard’s Table, Progress Place, the Sligo Community Center, and various other helping based organizations.

The other day a friend asked me how long have I been doing this.  I had to think for a minute. I guess I’ve been doing this ever since I was a small boy.  I grew up poor, but we were never too poor to share what we had with others.  I remember my mother feeding hungry strangers. 

Growing up and watching that kind of caring sticks.

I think the thing that most keeps me involved in this kind of ministry are the times I’ve seen people, created in the image of God, eating out of trashcans.  That kind of thing motivates me to want to help.  Maybe you too have seen the same kind of thing and want to make a difference.  Come to the Takoma Park Church.  Join us.  We always need more people to help.  Come and make a difference in the lives of others.
